Tomorrow I fly
into Budapest, Hungary to begin a six week wine tasting trip to several Eastern
European countries. After Hungary, I go to Slovenia.
I am also a bit of
a foodie so expect a comment or two on local cuisine along with tasting notes
on the wines I sample, I am aiming for 150-200 different wines for the
trip. There is a zero alcohol tolerance for
drivers in Hungary. So, the whole trip will be mostly by train, or bus, with
a bicycle thrown in here or there in rural areas.
A car is
indispensable when it comes to fully experiencing the wines a region has to
offer. However, I think I can get a fairly good sense without one.
Hungary officially has 22 wine regions. I’ll probably make it to a half dozen or so before
heading over to Slovenia. Hopefully,
then I can look forward to coming back next year to do tastings in other
regions
